Tuelo Ntotlang, a Library Services staff from Botswana International University of Sciences and Technology, went to the Library Department of the Universitat Pompeu Fabra within the scope of a training stay in 2022.
She relates: “The reception at Universitat Pompeu Fabra (UPF), Department of Library (Biblioteca) was great, the staff were very welcoming and knowledgeable about the open science agenda.
I learned about Open Science initiatives at the UPF, special reference to open access, open data, research information systems, digital repository and cooperative repositories. I really liked how their open science platforms are designed, as they are based on the FAIR data principles, ensuring that scholarly communication outputs are collected and disseminated to the global community without access restrictions.
I learned that the research information system (CRIS) that is widely used in Catalonia is a local designed platform and this approach is recommendable to my institution, lets use our own graduates to improve our services and systems because is not costly and it will help us to maintain quality services even if we experience budget cuts in our libraries.”
