New scholarships for studying an MBA in China and India

Aiming to promote training of executives and good relations between Spain and Asia, Casa Asia and the Fundation “la Caixa” offer 10 scholarships for studying an MBA in India and China.

Of the ten scholarships, six will be for studying an MBA in China Europe International Business School (CEIBS) in Shanghai, two – for studying an MBA in Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) Business School, and the remaining two – for studying a postgraduate programme in Management (PGP) in Indian School of Business (ISB) in Hyderabad.

The scholarships will start in 2012 and will cover the period of study from one year to twenty months. Applications are admitted until September 5, 2011.

The following expenses are covered by the scholarship: return flight, tuition fees, a bursary of 910 Euros per month in Shanghai and Hydebarad and a bursary of 1.400 Euros per month in Hong Kong, a one-off payment of 1.050 Euros for arrival, books etc., student visa, and a medical insurance. In the case of CEIBS, the scholarship will also include the costs of a 1.000 Euros language course in Mandarin in Shanghai.

A-4U becomes a member of the Spain-India Council Foundation

The Alliance of 4 Universities participates in the new Spain-India Council Foundation created to strengthen relations between the two countries.

The aim is to gather under one unique platform the efforts made by different sectors of the Spanish society to promote relations with India. The foundation will participate in several government initiatives and establish contacts with officials through visits to the countries, cultural and educational activities, investment forums, and meetings sponsored by the Spanish Institute of Foreign Trade (ICEX) and other business organisations. The foundation will also be in charge of promoting activities and contacts with a variety of entities.

The foundation’s organisation is made up of five ministries, the city councils of Barcelona and Madrid, various banks and building societies, businesses, universities and cultural institutions such as the Cervantes Institute and Casa Asia.

A-4U institutional visit to Brazil

A delegation of Alliance of 4 Universities (A-4U) will be visiting Brazil on an institutional trip from 26 March to 2 April to set up new relations with several of the country’s universities and institutions.

The objective of the trip is to establish new contacts with top universities and governmental organisations in Brazil to foster joint collaborations and new academic postgraduate programmes. With this trip A-4U will also enter into contact with industries in Brazil.

The trip will include visits to twelve of the top universities in the country and five governmental organisations in Rio de Janeiro, Brasília, Campinas, São Paolo, Porto Alegre and Florianópolis.

The delegation is formed by Vice-Rectors of International Relations of each of the member universities (Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, Autonomous University of Madrid, Universidad Carlos III and Pompeu Fabra University) and the International Relations Coordinator of A-4U. The visit is co-financed by the Spanish Institute of Foreign Trade (ICEX).

Brazil is one of the key countries included in the international projection process of A-4U given its importance as an emerging area of higher education. A-4U is committed to extending its relations with the four BRIC countries: Brazil, Russia, India and China

A-4U offers academic information to students in New Delhi

On 19 and 20 February, the First Spanish Universities’ Fair will take place in New Delhi, India, in which A-4U, among other Spanish universities, will inform students about studies available at its institutions.

The first fair for Spanish universities in New Delhi aims to offer Indian students information about the 19 universities taking part in the fair, as well as general information on the Spanish university system. This fair has been organised by Fundación Universidad.es whose main objective is the international projection of Spanish universities. The Cervantes Institute of New Delhi – where the fair will be held – also has collaborated in the organisation

A-4U will be informing about its undergraduate and postgraduate programmes to university students of India, the second country with the largest amount of students abroad. Due to its immense academic and scientific potential, India represents a strategic country for the internationalisation of academic studies and research offered at UAB. Through the A4U Alliance, last year UAB signed six agreements with universities in New Delhi and Bangalore to establish exchange programmes for students, lecturers and research staff.

The universities participating in the fair will also be visiting higher education centres throughout the metropolitan area of Delhi on 21 and 22 February.

Between November 22 and 27, the A-4U delegation will also be visiting the universities and research centres in New Delhi and Greater Noida, with which it will set up the new agreements. This trip will also serve to introduce the A-4U’s academic programmes to Indian students.

First Spanish Universities’ Fair

A-4U universities obtain the recognition of Campus of International Excellence

The leadership of the four universities which form part of A-4U has now been reaffirmed with all of them obtaining the recognition of Campus of International Excellence (CIE) awarded by the Spanish Ministries of Education and Science & Innovation. An international commission, composed of experts of recognized international standing, evaluated projects presented by Spanish universities. All four universities of the Alliance are among 13 campuses, which have obtained the title of CIE in 2009 and 2010 rounds.

UAB CIE project entitled “Promoting knowledge, encouraging innovation” is that of a university of excellence, innovative in spirit, ideal for living, learning and research, with a network of departments, R&D&I centres and hospitals which form the Research Park of UAB, all of them being located in a uniquely dynamic environment: B-30 Axis. This project aims to deepen the integration of this cluster, committed to the development of nanoscience and biotechnology, internationalization and attraction of human talent.

CIE UAM-CSIC: UAM obtained the recognition of Campus of International Excellence with a project that unites the efforts the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid and the National Council for Spanish National Research Council (CSIC), which share a long history of collaboration and success. The project is based on three pillars: clear commitment to teaching, consolidated prestige and talent in research, already of unquestionable international standing in some areas, and active engagement with the social, cultural and economic environment.

Campus Carlos III: UC3M project presents a strategic aggregation of various entities which aim to create a model of sustainable inter-city campus located in Madrid region. This is a campus for research, knowledge transfer and university teaching of international excellence, which aims to become one of the best in Europe in the areas of Social Sciences, Humanities, and Engineering.

Campus UPF – Icària International: UPF project aims to accelerate processes of excellence to which UPF was committed since its foundation; high-quality teaching, closeness to students, maximum internationalisation, and a strong focus on research and innovation in its three areas of expertise: Biomedical Sciences, Social Sciences, and Communication Sciences and Technology.

The programme of Campus of International Excellence aims to support universities, which help promote the new economic model based on knowledge and sustainability. It encourages specialization, internationalization, strategic aggregation and creation of critical mass, as well participation of universities in meeting the challenges of manufacturing industries. Existing collaborations between universities and R&D companies should help fulfill these objectives by introducing practices that lead to greater efficiency, competitiveness, and flexibility.

A-4U to collaborate with Indian universities and research centres

On November 24, Alianza 4 Universidades will sign a series of agreements with universities and research centres in India to promote exchanges of students, lecturers and researchers. The A-4U will set up collaborative agreements with Indian institutions in the areas of engineering, technology, biological sciences, economics and the humanities. These agreements will allow Spanish students to complete their education in Indian universities, and vice-versa. It will also promote mobility among lecturers and will facilitate collaboration on research projects between specialists from both countries.

The agreements will be signed in a public ceremony at the headquarters of the Cervantes Institute in New Delhi on the 24th at 11 a.m. The ceremony will be attended by chancellors and vice-chancellors from the A-4U institutions (Universidad Autónoma de Madrid, Universidad Carlos III, Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona and Universitat Pompeu Fabra) and delegations from the Indian institutions involved. Also in attendance will be the Spanish Ambassador to India, Ion de la Riva, the Embassy’s economic and trade office advisor, Teresa Solbes, and the director of the Cervantes Institute of New Delhi, Òscar Pujol.

One of the A-4U’s objectives is to expand the teaching and research activities of the Alliance’s institutions internationally. In this regard, India is a strategic area for the internationalisation of Spanish universities. The agreements to be signed in New Delhi will lay the groundwork for academic and scientific collaboration between the A-4U universities and their Indian partners. There will be seven agreements with the following Indian institutions:

– The Indian Institute of Science in Bangalore

– International Institute of Information Technology in Bangalore

– Indian Institute of Foreign Trade of India

– Birla Institute of Management Technology

– Consortium of National Institutes of Technology of India (Co-NIT)

– Jaypee Education System

– Indian Institute of Management in Bangalore
